Map Shows Every Weather Warning Issued Across US

A National Weather Service (NWS) forecast map shows which states are facing weather warnings on Friday afternoon.
Inclement weather prompting the warnings varied across the nation—ranging from snow in high-elevation parts of California and the Pacific Northwest to red flag warnings and critical fire conditions in the Northeast. Much of the central U.S. was not impacted by weather, according to the map.
A winter weather advisory was in place for Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and California. Meanwhile, a winter storm warning was in place for Oregon and Washington and warned of continued snow through Friday evening. The advisories warned of difficult travel because of winter weather conditions.
“Snow covered roads, chain controls and travel delays are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact travel Friday evening through Saturday afternoon,” the Sacramento, California, advisory said.
In addition to the winter weather, the storm was contributing to high winds in parts of California. The Eureka NWS office issued a wind advisory warning of strong gusts that could break tree branches and cause some power outages.
Further south in California, a high-wind watch was issued by the Hanford office and a wind advisory and high-wind watch was issued for the San Diego office.
NWS meteorologist Rose Schoenfeld previously told Newsweek that winds also were likely to cause impact in the Los Angeles forecast region later this weekend as remnants from the Pacific Northwest storm worked south.
Further inland, NWS meteorologists issued flood watches for southeastern New Mexico and western Texas. A slow-moving band of thunderstorms was bringing widespread rain to the area.
“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded,” the watch said.
A hazardous weather outlook encompassed a more widespread area across the two states warning about the continued risk of thunderstorms into the weekend.
A flood warning also had been issued for Louisiana, with the NWS office in Lake Charles warning of minor flood impact near the Calcasieu River through next Tuesday. Some flood warnings also were in place for Florida, as well as a hazardous weather outlook and rip current statements for the eastern part of the state warning of dangerous waters.
The biggest threat in the Northeast was continued dry weather, contributing to a slew of red flag warnings, special weather statements and hazardous weather outlooks warning of critical fire conditions. States with alerts in place are New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, northern Virginia and eastern West Virginia.
Ocean conditions also prompted warnings from NWS offices. On the West Coast, meteorologists issued a high-surf advisory, small-craft advisory and gale watch for California. Similar alerts were issued for the Oregon and Washington coastlines, along with a hazardous sea warning.
A small-craft advisory also was issued for Hawaii.
Inclement weather plagued Alaska on Friday, with the northern part of the state facing a winter weather advisory and a heavy freezing spray warning. A storm warning and myriad ocean-related warnings were in place for the southern part of the state.
