2 killed, 7 injured in Israeli airstrike on Lebanese town

BEIRUT, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — A Hezbollah member and a civilian were killed and seven civilians injured on Wednesday afternoon in an Israeli airstrike targeting a motorcycle in the southwestern Lebanese town of Jwaya.
Lebanese military sources told Xinhua anonymously that an Israeli drone targeted a motorcycle with two air-to-surface missiles in Jwaya, killing the driver and a Lebanese civilian while wounding the other passersby.
According to the sources, the killed Hezbollah member was named Hassan Fares Jichi, and the civilian Mohammad Hassan Shomer.
The Israeli military has not commented on the airstrike.
Meanwhile, the Hezbollah Military Media announced that the Islamic Resistance attacked several Israeli sites and gatherings, including Jal al-Alam, al-Raheb, al-Malikiyah, al-Za’oura, and Ruwaisat al-Alam.
Tensions are high in Lebanon following Israel’s attack on Dahieh in Beirut’s southern suburbs, which resulted in the death of a senior Hezbollah military commander, Fouad Shokor, and seven civilians. Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah has threatened a definite and painful response to the Israeli raid at the appropriate time and place.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, when Hezbollah launched a barrage of rockets at Israel in solidarity with Hamas’s attack on Israel the previous day. In response, Israel fired heavy artillery into southeastern Lebanon. ■
