Description
Featured in this auction is a vintage urn, pottery bowl or vase made by the Brush-McCoy Pottery Co. This beautiful, early piece from the 1920's is unmarked except for the impressed shape #717 but is referenced in the "Sanfords Guide to Brush-McCoy Pottery" by Martha and Steve Sanford as being from their "Fawn" vase line. The vase has a bulbous body, 2 applied handles and a collared rim.The piece is finished in a unique and rare glaze combination that combined an ivory or cream-colored interior lining with a solid, KolorKraft rose-colored drip glaze on the outside. The IVOry and KOlorkraft matte glaze combination produced Brush-McCoy's "Ivoko" glaze finish which was initially
produced in the 1920's. I've only ever seen this glaze finish in photos of their catalog pages. There is a small nick or chip at the top rim and a grinding glaze flake at the base rim. Other small production details to note include tiny clay tags, small glaze skips inside the handles, visible stilt marks, and firing hairlines in the thick glaze on the inside. There is some light scuffing along with minor staining inside from prior use. However, this Fawn vase is otherwise in very good condition with no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs. The piece is 6-1/2" wide at the handles, about 5-3/4" tall, and about 3-3/4" wide at the mouth. The piece does show some gentle wear but is very clean over all. Check out all 12 photos! This harder-to-find beauty would be perfect for any American art pottery or Brush-McCoy Pottery collector. Check out my other pottery listings!
